I recently attended a summer festival that had the most incredible “Green Team” helping to clean up the festival. The group is called the Eco Defenders. I was amazed to learn that through the volunteer group’s careful sorting of waste throughout the day of the festival, they were able to convert over 5000+ people’s worth of rubbish into less than one garbage bag’s worth of actual garbage! All of the other trash was able to be sorted into compost or recycling bins. What an amazing endeavour!

This got me thinking about the crime-fighting, superhero nature of defending the environment. Whether you’re joining an existing environmental group, starting one of your own, or just doing your own part at home, there really is something heroic that I think we can all embrace when it comes to saving the environment. With that mindset, there is a fun and righteous element to ridding the streets of litter and keeping our towns pristine.

You don’t have to have children to embrace the fun side of this idea. I’m reminded of Captain Vegetable and Super Grover from Sesame Street:

Add a little fun to your environmentalism! Take the streets in your neighborhood with a little eco heroism. Become an eco defender in your community today.
