Welcome back!

For those of you joining us check out our post here with our 2015 challenge to reduce waste and green your home.

How did last week go?  Were you able to find reusable paper towels you like?  It can be an adjustment but your pocket book and the landfills will thank you!

The challenge this week is easy, doesn’t require any shopping and was one of the most eye opening experiences I went through when first beginning to reduce my waste.

Ready?

Keep a list of all the single-use items you use this week.

Stick a piece of paper up somewhere you’ll see it every day (Maybe on the wall above the trash can). Then make a note of every single-use item you toss or recycle- include food packaging and condiment packets since those can’t be reused.  This was eye opening for me.  I realized a majority of what I was tossing were single use items.

Want to take it up a notch?  Write down everything you throw away for the week.

At the end of the week look over your list to find the most frequently discarded items and evaluate if you can come up with a way to replace that with something reusable.

Take a guess in the comments or email me at blog@keeper.com with what you think your top items will be.  Then let me know if you were right (I sure wasn’t!!) We’ll cover ways to replace your top single-use items with more sustainable choices in future posts.

Happy trash talk! ~Olivia
