Happy Earth Day! Did you know that today is the 45th Earth Day?? It has certainly grown into a wonderful day to educate, inspire and support green-living and reducing waste.

Those of you joining me on this journey probably feel like you’re living Earth Day every day.  I know I sometimes feel that way.  Earth Day isn’t nearly as exciting for me now as it was when I first began this crunchy/ Zero Waste lifestyle.  I think as people who are mindful of making sustainable choices we can sometimes glaze over Earth Day as a day that doesn’t really matter much to us.  Yes, Earth Day has gotten over-marketed and not everything promoted on Earth Day is “green.”  However, it’s a great opportunity to share your favorite sustainable products and recipes with others.

planet-earth-1401465793UfsOur challenge for this week is to share the concept of “Earth Day everyday” with someone you know.  It’s not uncommon for people who want to live green/ reduce their impact but not be sure how to.  You can help!

Ways to Bring Earth Day to People in Your Life

* Give them an air purifying plant
* Give your friend who loves smoothies a glass smoothie straw and mason jar glass
* A hanky will help your co-worker who has seasonal allergies
* Ask your boss to replace paper at work with 100% recycled paper, install a recycling and compost bin, or hang up a white board for small announcements instead of paper announcements
* Encourage the art teacher at your child’s school to save broken crayons and upcyle them into new crayons like this tutorial from “Hands on as we Grow”
* Send someone Unpaper towels and a wet bag
* Get your girlfriend a reusable menstrual product like a Keeper or Moon Cup or one of the other options we talked about here\
* Invite some friends over for a handmade body product night
* Send your college student a refillable pen with extra refills
* Put some of your favorite bulk products in small jars and give them to friends
* Make Grandma some of your homemade cleaning products
* Bring an extra reusable shopping bag with you to the store and give it to the person behind you in line
