I am a big DIY’er.  I love to make my own products- personally I find it to be relaxing and a fun creative outlet. It is, however, somewhat time consuming.  I know that many of you reading out there are BUSY.  You have lots of other things demanding your time and attention.  Or maybe you want to use natural products and reduce your waste but you just don’t like making things yourself.

Guess what?  Plenty of other people have already done the work for you!!!

This week’s challenge is super simple… shop local for your homemade (by someone else!) body care products. Here are a few places to try:

You can drastically reduce packaging buying your soap in bulk without any wrapping!

You can drastically reduce packaging buying your soap in bulk without any wrapping!

  • (My personal favorite) Visit Etsy and you can search for things local to you.  Then message the seller and ask them to do an in-person delivery and either package it in no packaging at all (what we do for our soap), as minimal packaging as possible, or ask them to meet you and fill up your own containers.  Many vendors selling body products on Etsy will give you a discount on refills in the future too.
  • Check out your local health food store for bulk body care products.  We talked about buying in bulk a few weeks ago.  Many health food stores have awesome bulk shampoo, lotion, soaps, etc.  You can bring in your own container to refill- just make sure to weigh it first.
  • Find a local apothecary.  Most apothecary’s have a great line of body care products made from food-based ingredients and will fill your own containers.
  • Visit a local cloth diaper store.  They should have body care products for the whole family!
  • Check your local farmer’s market and follow the same suggestions for shopping via Etsy!
  • Pursue local groups on Facebook and Craigslist.  Lots of cities are popping up with community groups on Facebook where people sell homemade goods.I can’t wait to hear what you find.  Tell me all about your new body care finds in the comments below or at blog@keeper.com!
