Hi everybody!  How was your Memorial Day?  I hope you were all able to relax and enjoy some time with family and friends.  I am recovering from Mono!! I came down with it about 2 weeks ago and have been taking things super slow and sleeping more than I knew was possible.

To wrap up our month of looking at homemade body care products I wanted to talk about my personal favorite product to make- shampoo!

Keep that hair looking beautiful!!

The thing I love about making shampoo is that there are SO many recipes out there.  Your hair will actually be healthier if you change up your shampoo on a regular basis and most recipes are quick to make.  My 4 year old loves helping me make shampoo!! My hair is very thick and long, and I typically change up my shampoo every 2-3 months.  I don’t usually use a “conditioner” but do a rinse with apple cider vinegar and occasionally an overnight soak with coconut oil.  Because there are so many different recipes and options out there I’m going to give you a list of sites with recipes that I’ve personally used and love.    (Of course if you’re not a DIY-er check out my tips from last week on natural beauty care made by someone else!)

~I started out going no ‘poo as many people do when changing to natural products.  Treehouse Daily has the basics of no ‘poo here
~This recipe from the Nerdy Farm wife is the recipe I use every other batch of shampoo and one that’s great for gifting!  She uses herbs in her recipe along with castile soap and oil.
~I’m just starting with using rhassoul clay as shampoo.  It works the best of anything I’ve used yet if you can get over the whole “washing your hair with dirt” thing- you end up with a beautiful shine! Check out this recipe from How to Go Natural.
~I also love this recipe from Wellness Mama utilizing coconut milk!!

If you’re currently making your own shampoo please share your recipe with me!  If not, I would love to know which one you’re going to try out first.  Let me know in the comments below or email me at blog@keeper.com.
