Growing up my Mom always had her Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving!  I try my best to do the same so I can avoid any last minute stress of finding the perfect gift.  Gift ideas get difficult the more concerned you become about sustainability, I’ve come up with a few ideas I hope you’ll love!

Gift ideas– Memberships to local attractions- they keep on giving, are educational and all the packaging can be recycled as can the membership card.
– A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) membership. Provide your loved one with fresh, local produce for a season? (see our post with more information about CSAs here)
– Gift of service- think about a need that would be helpful for your loved one. Perhaps they cloth diaper and would love 6 months worth of a diaper service? Or weekly house cleaning? Or a meal cooked by you once a month?
– For kids, skip the toys that will break before the Holidays next year and choose some of their favorite foods, take them on a special outing, or get them books!
– Spend time together. Go out for a nice meal, catch a movie, or volunteer somewhere together.
– Donate to their favorite non-profit.
– Get them a re-loadable gift card to their favorite grocery store, save the number on it and surprise them by reloading it throughout the year!
– Send them on a weekend getaway.
– Purchase them some of your favorite Zero Waste items to help them along their journey! Puruse through all our old posts here to get ideas.

Whatever you choose, try to be mindful of the packaging and the longevity of the product. Happy Holidays!

Olivia lives in Boulder, Colorado with her husband and 4 year old son. She enjoys spending time in the mountains, studying about essential oils, natural remedies and herbs, as well as upcycling/ DIY projects. Olivia’s family made the move last year towards becoming a Zero Waste household. They have gotten down to one bathroom sized trashcan a month of garbage but hope to be totally Zero Waste by the end of 2015.
