Happy Wednesday everyone!  So far in our Waste Less and Be Green in 2015 Challenge this month we’ve looked at making super simple body butter and body scrubs out of ingredients you can buy in bulk and found in many kitchens!  How’s your skin feeling now that it’s been exfoliated and moisturized?  I hope you’re enjoying the recipes we’ve posted and tinkering with making your own.

My personal favorite way to relax and unwind is to take a long bath.  If you’re wanting to green your bath and richly nourish your skin- tune in 🙂

Personally I love using 1 cup epsom salts and 1/4 cup dried lavender in my bath.  I’m able to get both of these ingredients in bulk and I feel like a million bucks after a 15-20 minute soak.

Relaxing and nourishing baths are surprisingly easy to do with ingredients you can purchase in bulk.  Things such as:

  • Dried or fresh flower petals or your favorite herb
  • Dead Sea Salt or Epsom Salt mixed with a few drops of your favorite essential oil (for best results mix together in a glass jar before pouring into the bath)
  • A tablespoon of coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil or sweet almond oil in to the bath water will give you an extra boost of hydration (Coconut oil especially is great for eczema)
  • Ground oatmeal on it’s own or pre-mixed with essential oils or dried herbs soothes skin and smells surprisingly wonderful
  • Dried milk powder, buttermilk, fresh milk, whey, or raw milk are all great for the skin and can be added to the bath (I love milk powder with some dried rose petals)
  • Glycerin is also super hydrating and nice in a bath

Speaking of glycerin.  Did you know you can make a nice bubble bath with glycerin? This recipe works quite well, the bubbles don’t last as long as bubble bath made with Sodium Laurel Sulfates but it’s safe and super nourishing for your skin.

Homemade Bubble Bath

4 Cups Water
4-6 oz Castile Soap
2 oz of Glycerin
1 oz melted coconut oil (optional)
4-6 drops essential oils (optional)

Combine everything in a glass jar and pour under warm running water (I usually use half the batch).  Relax and enjoy!

There you have it- simple and inexpensive ways to enjoy a nourishing bath.  So go rifle through your cabinets and see what ingredients you have and take some time to relax!!

What are your favorite ways to enjoy a bath?  Let me know in the comments below or email me at blog@keeper.com and let me know.

Until next week
