Organic Essentials — makes organic cotton products (including tampons, cotton balls, cosmetic rounds) which are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides, and defoliants, and are whitened with hydrogen peroxide, instead of chlorine bleach.

Museum of Menstruation — contains more information about menstruation than on any other site we know of. Includes historical information about menstrual products, attitudes about menstruation, etc.

Natural Choices — a company that sells many natural products, including feminine products, and household cleaning products.

The Tampon Safety and Research Act of 1997 a bill introduced by Carolyn Maloney, the congresswoman from New York, to educate women about the potential dangers of feminine products currently on the market, and to give them the accurate information they need to make informed decisions about their health as it relates to tampon use.

Feminist Organizations

Feminist.com — a grassroots, interactive community by, for and about women, which aims to facilitate information-sharing among women and encourages mobilization around political issues, promotes women’s business development, supports women-friendly organizations, expands civic participation and encourages women’s self-sufficiency.

National Women’s Health Network — the only national public interest membership organization dedicated exclusively to women’s health; its mission is to give women a greater voice in the United States health care system.

Environmental Television Station

The Discovery Channel’s Planet Green — Planet Green is the first and only 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network with a robust online presence and community. Launched in June 2008, Planet Green’s on-air content reaches 50 million homes, offering more than 250 hours per week of original green lifestyle programming. Check out their schedule and tune in to watch their eco-programs.

Women and Environments, WE International Magazine — A unique international magazine, based in Toronto, Canada, which examines women’s multiple relations to their many environments — natural, physical, built, and social — from a feminist perspective

E/The Environmental Magazine — the online edition of E Magazine, a clearinghouse for information, news and commentary on environmental issues. The publication aims to inform and inspire people who have concerns about the environment and who want to know what they can do to make a difference.

RACHEL’s Environment and Health Weekly — a weekly online newsletter published by the Environmental Research Foundation. Environment & Health Background Report is also available online. Includes all back issues and a search engine.

Sierra Magazine — Published bimonthly by the Sierra Club. Covers topics relating to exploring, enjoying, and protecting the planet.

Environmental Sites

The following three websites are the brainchildren of the indefatigable Graham Hill, an extremely committed and talented environmentalist, whose knowledge and media experience combine to make his websites forces to be reckoned with. Graham used to work with Simran Sethi who, like him, has devoted many years to the study and promotion of eco-friendliness. The following three websites attest to their commitment, passion, and knowledge.

TREEHUGGER — There are few things in this life that live up to their hype. Treehugger is one that does. One of the very best environmental web magazines around, Treehugger has 750,000 visitors per month and is “dedicated to everything that has a modern aesthetic yet is environmentally responsible. Our goal is to make sustainability mainstream and to be the one-stop for the environment.” This site is a real treat.

TREEHUGGER TV — Another brainchild of Graham Hill, Treehugger TV features videos about eco-friendly topics. Among them: “How to Throw an Eco-Party,” “How to Find Green Fish,” and “Green Your Shower.” A really creative idea.

Since 1996, The Simple Living Network has been providing resources, tools, contacts, and examples for conscious, simple, healthy and restorative living. It is a really extraordinary site, containing lots of great information on frugality, simplicity and environment-friendly living. Take a look at its article archives and its very active discussion forums. And be sure to check out the Simplicity Study Group section to see if there is a study group in your town!

Greenpeace — the world’s “pre-eminent environmental organization,” which achieves change through direct, nonviolent actions and lobbying at international conferences.

Women’s Environmental Network — a unique, vital and innovative British organization, which represents women, and campaigns on issues which link women, environment and health.

Coop America — provides the economic strategies, organizing power and practical tools for businesses and individuals to address today’s social and environmental problems; a leading force in educating and empowering people and businesses to make significant improvements through the economic system.

Chlorine Free Products Association — a unique trade association representing companies dedicated to implementing advanced technologies, and/or, groups supporting products free of chlorine chemistry; membership is open to those in industries that are producing totally, or Processed Chlorine Free (TCF) products, or those interested in supporting the advancement of TCF technology.
