We love stories about incredible women. We love stories about saving the environment. It should come as no surprise, then, that we LOVED hearing about Mikaila, the young girl on a mission to save the bees.

Mikaila’s Story

At age 13, Mikaila Ulmer has an award-winning lemonade flying off the shelves of Whole Foods, leads workshops on how to save the honeybees, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down.

After being stung by a pair of bees, Mikaila turned her fear into fascination, and started learning everything she could about bees and their importance in the ecosystem. At just 4 years old, she decided to try to help the honeybees, and her Me & The Bees Lemonade was born.

Making Lemonade

Mikaila’s Flaxseed Lemonade is made with local honey, and a portion of each bottle sold to organizations working to save the bees. With the addition of flaxseed, the lemonade has digestive benefits, as well. You can find it in a variety of flavors, including Mint, Ginger, Iced Tea, and Prickly Pear. All her ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, from farmers who use sustainable farming and beekeeping practices. All natural ingredients, and an eco-friendly mission! This company goes above and beyond to live up to their slogan: Buy a Bottle, Save a Bee!

Social Entrepreneurship

In addition to running her own business, Mikaila volunteers her time teaching people of all ages about the importance of saving the bees. She runs workshops, and has a Facebook Page where she shares information on her lemonade, her appearances, and bee conservation.

We love hearing about kids like Mikaila. It’s so important for young women to know that they can make a difference, and they can make it NOW. You’ve got everything you need to change the world – you just have to go out and do it! So, the next time you’re at Whole Foods, pick up a bottle! Support a young woman. Support a woman entrepreneur! And, as Mikaila says, buy a bottle, save a bee!
